A trail bike rider suffering serious injuries was winched out of thick bushland on Sunday morning in a delicate operation by the RACQ CareFlight helicopter team.

The Sunshine Coast-based rescue helicopter was called just before 11:00am to assist the man, who had been injured while riding with friends in the Imbil State Forest.

The chopper pilot had to carefully land on a narrow weir to pick up the man’s friend who directed the crew to the injured man.

Once overhead, the crew winched the CareFlight doctor and a QAS Intensive Care Flight Paramedic down through the thick forest canopy to the scene.

The male rider, in his late forties, suffered leg, chest and arm injuries.

He was stabilised and airlifted in a stretcher into the helicopter.

He was then flown to Nambour Hospital in a serious condition.
