A free Women’s Health Seminar and Expo was held at Kingaroy Town Hall on Saturday morning in a bid to woo South Burnett women into a healthier lifestyle.
Guest speaker was former Australian netball captain Vicki Wilson who spoke about her journey in sport.
By the time she retired in 1999, Vicki had represented Australia 104 times over an incredible 15 years – the last four as team captain.
However, she has not slowed down in retirement.
Vicki, who lives in Brisbane, is currently the “attack” coach for the New Zealand Silver Ferns and is kept busy travelling back and forwards across the Tasman.
Her story was designed to inspire her listeners as were the free workshops and stalls from different health providers.
Information was also available about the Get Out, Get Active “gym taster” program, which has been organised by the South Burnett Regional Council.
Last year, Council successfully applied for $18,800 funding from the State Government to help inactive women in the South Burnett to get active by providing access to a free eight-week gym program.
The program also offers free childcare at each location.
The program will kick off on May 18 at various locations throughout the South Burnett.
Classes will be provided by the South Burnett PCYC in Murgon, Wondai and Proston; Kingaroy Fitness in Kingaroy; and Rapid Fitness in Nanango and Blackbutt.
