South Burnett vets will again be taking part in RSPCA Queensland’s statewide desexing campaign, dubbed “Operation Wanted”.

More than 200 vets across Queensland will be reducing their desexing fees by at least 20 per cent from June 1 for three months.

The RSPCA hopes 30,000 extra animals will be desexed because of the promotion – which will save millions of animals’ lives down the line.

“There is a massive pet over-population all over Queensland,” RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty said.

“Nearly 45,000 animals come into our care every year and the vast majority of these have not been desexed. We’ve got to get the message out there.

“Plus, of course, the reason we have such a massive feral cat and wild dog population is because people were not and are not desexing their pets.”

Operation Wanted also has some prizes of offer as an added incentive.

Two Harley Davidson motorcycles can be won and there are also two $500 World for Pets gift vouchers up for grabs.

Mr Beatty said the desexing program was trialled in nine shires last year – including the South Burnett – and more than 6000 extra animals were desexed.

“This year it’s statewide and next year we believe more and more vets and councils will come on board. We can’t and mustn’t give up the fight,” he said.
