The Dayboro team of Terry Morley, Karen King and skip Mick Bond were all smiles after claiming the trophy for the Pines Carnival at Yarraman over the weekend; look for a full report next week

The bowls calendar has been very full over the past week.

Six Burnett District teams were involved in the State District Sides championships held on the Sunshine Coast; the Pines Carnival in Yarraman last weekend attracted teams from as far away as Dayboro; and the Men’s Trophy Day at Nanango on Tuesday attracted a full green.

In an unusual departure from my weekly local bowls reports, I published the results of the State District Sides championships here on southburnett.com.au last week for the benefit of other local bowlers keen to know how our Burnett sides were doing.

Our reward was seeing our Burnett ladies side secure fifth place in this year’s competition – well done!

I hope to have more information on the other competitions in next week’s column.

In the meantime, here’s a wrap-up of some other things that have been happening in our region’s bowls clubs this week:

Yarraman News

The Yarraman Bowls Club held a Special General Meeting on Saturday to fill two vacancies on the committee.

These were caused by the unexpected resignation of Horst Meyer a couple of weeks ago, who held the twin positions of President and Providore.

There was only one nomination for the President’s position, and that was from Senior Vice President Neil Johnston. He was duly elected to the top job.

Neil has previously held the President’s role in Yarraman and also in Nanango.

No nomination in writing were lodged to fill the then-arising Senior Vice President’s position, so filling this vacancy was adjourned to the next committee meeting.

The Providore’s post was accepted by Wayne Emms, the former chairman of the Bendigo Bank Board.

What’s On The Blackboard at Yarraman:

  • Wednesday – Ladies Trophy Day, 9:30am start
  • Friday – Scroungers 3:30pm
  • Saturday – all club championships must be finalised
  • Sunday – Club selected Triples, 12 noon start
  • Thursday 21 – Pub Day
