Construction company FK Gardner & Sons has applied to Toowoomba Regional Council for permission to build an $80 million abattoir and milk processing plant near Toowoomba.

The company’s proposal is to build the complex at Charlton on a greenfield site not far from the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport.

Speaking to the ABC, FKG property development group manager Dallas Hunter refused to give details about the milk side of the plant, but said the abattoir would kill 10,000 head of cattle per week over two shifts.

He said the beef would “most likely” be for export.

  1. Is the old Murgon meatworks beyond repair or too small for what is planned for this Toowoomba project?
