Former Nanango mayor Reg McCallum has been in the wars lately after tangles with a cow and horse.
About a fortnight ago, Reg was in a stockyard on his property near Nanango when a beast pushed into a gate.
“And the gate hit me. It knocked me rotten. I was in hospital overnight,” Reg, 88, said.
He ended up with 10 stitches in his head from this misadventure.
And then, just recently, a horse speared him headfirst into the ground when it pulled away suddenly as he was leading it.
This time Reg ended up with a big plaster on his head.
“Oh well, that’s life in the bush,” Reg said.
And is he thinking of giving away farm work?
“It’s better to wear out than rust away …”
