The Nanango War Memorial on the corner of Drayton and Henry streets
April 20, 2015

For about 17 years the Nanango War Memorial statue near Reg McCallum Park has stood with a chipped hand and rifle but thanks to Federal Government funding, the proud tribute to those who served will soon be repaired.

Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott said the Nanango Remembrance Committee and Nanango RSL Sub-Branch would receive $4000 to restore and clean the statue under the Federal Government’s “Saluting Their Service Commemorations” program.

“I understand the community has tried to mend the War Memorial statue for many years so this funding is a wonderful Federal Government investment in the Nanango region,” Mr Scott said.

“This year marks the Centenary of Anzac and on Saturday, April 25, the entire nation will stand silent to remember the meaning of Anzac, what it means to be Australian and the importance of never forgetting service and sacrifice.

“I congratulate the Nanango Remembrance Committee, Nanango RSL Sub-Branch and community for their commitment to honouring those who have served our great country to ensure we will never forget.”
