The Brisbane Valley Highway was blocked for several hours on Wednesday near Fernvale after a crash involving a sedan, a 4WD and a stationwagon.

At this stage, few details are available however southburnett.com.au has been told 10 people have been taken to hospital – four by helicopter to Brisbane hospitals and six by road ambulance to Ipswich General Hospital.

Diversions, via Glenmorganvale, are in place around the crash site, which is two kilometres south of Fernvale at Fairney View.

The QAS was called to the scene at 1:16pm.

An ambulance spokesman said three people were in the first vehicle, which rolled over – a mother and two children. The mother, who suffered limb fractures, was trapped and had to be cut free. She was transported by helicopter to the PA Hospital in Brisbane.

A male child with chest injuries and a female child with seatbelt injuries to her abdomen were flown to Lady Cilento Hospital in Brisbane.

From the second vehicle, the male driver suffered minor head injuries and was taken to Ipswich Hospital. His 50-year-old passenger suffered shoulder, chest and hip injuries and was flown to PA Hospital.

From the third vehicle, a 55-year-old woman, a woman aged in her 30s, two teenage girls and a 10-month-old infant were taken to Ipswich Hospital for assessment.

Police, ambulance and QFES crews are at the scene and the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
