Kingaroy author Dannielle Wicks’ dream of becoming an internationally published writer is definitely not fading away … in fact, it’s becoming a firm reality.
On Thursday, Danni received copies of her first published book, “Fading Away”, direct from her publisher in the United States.
She says the novel, Book 1 in her “Hardest Mistakes” series, is a paranormal contemporary romance pitched at the young adult market.
Danni has a contract with Limitless Publishing for a minimum of three books, and has already submitted her second novel, “November Sky”, which is the second in the series but can be read as a stand-alone work.
“Fading Away” is her first published work but she has been writing for years.
During the week, Danni works as an IT specialist at PCA. Sundays are devoted to writing.
Like many writers, she starts with notes on paper which are divided into sections.
She then does her first draft on a laptop hooked up to the TV.
She’s currently working on another contemporary romance which she describes as being in the genre of American novelist Nicholas Sparks.
Her idol, though, is J.K. Rowling, but not because of the amount of money she has made through her books.
Danni is impressed by how “J.K.” has touched so many lives and affected so many people with her words and ideas.
She is also stunned by the amount of support she has received from other authors online.
“I have connected with one of my favourite authors ever,” she said.
“The community of authors is so supportive and not competitive at all. Everyone wants everyone else to succeed. It’s so refreshing.”
Danni says she is “nervous and scared” by how her career as an author is starting.
“Not too many people get to do what they want to do in life,” she said.

And now, a taste of “Fading Away”:
One night. One stupid mistake. Changes everything.
Sammy Stevens was tragically orphaned at the age of nine and sent to live with a foster family in the town of Miakoda Falls.
She’s constantly bullied at school by the arrogant, selfish, one and only… Kai Jordan.
Kai is your typical entitled teen who’s on the verge of attending a university and having everything he ever wanted handed to him.
But all that changes when he is involved in a car accident after a night of partying … He’s suddenly and painfully brought into the world of the supernatural.
To find out more, you’ll just have to buy the book. It’s available from Amazon as a paperback or as a Kindle e-book, and Barnes & Noble or direct from the author via Facebook or her website
