What a big day it was in Nanango last Sunday! Two full greens; 28 teams fronted to play in the Sharron and Glen Yeates-sponsored Rotational Triples.

It was played over two games of 18 ends. Players rotated after every six ends. What fun.

Scoring was wins plus ends. The winning team contained one of the sponsors and the Games Director had fun sorting out the placegetters.

Fortunately, Nanango has a great computer program with a built-in calculator. Here’s a run-down of the scoreboard:

Championship Pairs: The final was played between Lew Saunders & Mike Wyvill against Brian Havell & Jim Fowler. After six ends Wyvill’s team led 9 to 1 but Fowler’s team fought back to level the scores on the 9th end to 9-all. After this it was all the Wyvill team, running out winners 24-17.

Yarraman dominated the scoreboard in the monthly triples clash with Nanango.

The winners were Brian Dugdell, Kay Dugdell, George Wolski, 38 points.

Runners-up were Helene Johnson, Kev Profke, Bev Profke, 36 points.

A number of Yarraman players travelled to Toogoolawah on Monday for their Pub Day.

Yarraman scooped the pool taking home the trophies for both winner and runners-up.

Bev Profke, Kev Profke, Di Currell, Neil Currell scored 25 points.

It was very close for the runners-up trophy, with Robyn Diercke, John O’Connell, John Beattie and Chris MacLeod scoring  24 points.

On Saturday, in the  final of the Ladies Open Pairs, Annette O’Brien and Val Jeppesen met Charmaine MacLeod and Bronwyn Grant in a great tussle.

The game was quite an entertainer; the gallery enjoyed this one! It was of a very high standard with no quarter asked or given.

The experience of O’Brien and Jeppesen came to the fore and over 21 ends they ran out comfortable winners 21 to 11.

Last Tuesday – the ever popular Cheap Tuesday Pairs: Kev Raffin, Alan Irwin 27 def. Lindy Clutterbuck, Geoff Clutterbuck 14;  Maree Millard, Erris Vale 20 def. Briggitte Kung, Dave Barwick 11

On Thursday, bowlers tried another new format for their regular Thursday bowls. Sixteen players played three  bowl pairs as a change from their normal three bowl triples. Each team played two  games of 16 ends. The winners of the first game played against each other, while the losers of the first game played against each other. The result was determined by the number of wins overall with the combined winning margin being used to decide any deadlock.

  • Overall winners: Eric Ford, Alan Irwin 2 wins + margin 17
  • Runners-up: Barry O’Brien, Paul Marychurch 2 wins + margin 14
