The Goomeri Show Society is celebrating its 90th birthday this weekend, the 75th Goomeri Show and the opening of its new pavilion … by a secret guest.

Show Society members and other guests enjoyed a reunion dinner in the new pavilion on Friday night, the first official function to be held in the new building.

The old pavilion could not be saved after a storm – and then a metre of water – wrecked the building two years ago.

The new, modern pavilion has been built on higher ground which can never flood.

Show Society president Amanda McArthur said the building would be officially opened at 2:00pm on Saturday, but southburnett.com.au could not prise out the name of the guest, which the society wants to be a surprise.

A collection of memorabilia celebrating the history of the Goomeri Show has been gathered together and put on show inside the new pavilion.

Other highlights of Saturday’s show include the ring events, Stud and Prime Beef Cattle competitions, a Championship Dog Show, a grand parade with the theme “Down Through The Years”, team penning, tug-o-war, bike v horse barrel races and fireworks.
