Kilkivan has won country music singer Josh Arnold’s Small Town Culture project – and will now have a song and video made about the town.
The Gympie Regional Council town won the voting by the narrowest of margins over Clermont.
Voting was conducted on the Small Town Culture Facebook page.
Josh launched the Small Town Culture program in 2007 and since then has been collaborating with school students to create original music from their ideas.
In 2013, Yarraman State School students made a video with the help of Josh to promote their town.
The final Top 10 towns in the latest “Australian Regional Community Competition” were Augathella, Birdsville, Charleville, Clermont, Dirranbandi, Kilkivan, Kooralbyn, Texas, Wanaaring and Yarrabah.
“Wow, wow, wow. That was so incredibly close!,” Josh said on Facebook.
“Congratulations Kilkivan. I will be visiting your town very soon to create a song and video clip!
“Clermont … I was blown away by your passion and effort. I would love to make a visit to your town later this year.
“Thanks to everyone from every town involved. I am so humbled by your enthusiasm for Small Town Culture and our work.”
The new Kilkivan song will also be distributed to 400 radio stations across Australia.
