Kingaroy Magistrates Court was told on Thursday an increase in property offences in Kingaroy could be linked to the recent release of a man on bail.

Arguing against bail, Police Prosecutor Sgt Wayne Bushell said Marcus Lee Braithwaite – who was facing six fresh charges – had been bailed recently in Brisbane Magistrates Court.

“There has certainly been a spike in property offences in Kingaroy over the past two weeks which coincides with Mr Braithwaite being released on bail and in the area,” Sgt Bushell said.

Solicitor Mark Werner, appearing for Braithwaite, complained, saying “that was a long bow to draw”.

Magistrate Barry Barrett refused bail saying Braithwaite, 42, posed an unacceptable risk of re-offending if released.
