Rugby league is well and truly back in action in the South Burnett, even though the first round of the Junior competition doesn’t start until April, and the Senior competition doesn’t kick off until May.

Last Saturday, the Nanango Stags hosted pre-season games for U6s through to an A Grade grand final replay between Murgon and Cherbourg which was played under lights.

The main game was played in four 15-minute quarters.

Murgon drew blood first, via a try to Ashley O’Chin.

At the end of Quarter 1, Murgon led 8-6.

O’Chin opened Quarter 2 with his second try, and the  Mustangs were still in the lead at half-time 14-6.

Cherbourg came good in the third quarter, scoring three tries to one, and taking a narrow lead 20-18.

However, Murgon dominated the last 15 minutes, scoring three unanswered tries to reverse the 2014 Grand Final result, defeating Cherbourg 34-20.
