The South Burnett National Show Society is excited about its annual Show Ball which will be held at the Kingaroy Town Hall on Saturday, April 18.

The Ball is the traditional curtain-raiser for the annual Kingaroy Show, which will be held on May 2-3.

Apart from a fun night of dinner and dancing, the Ball will see the crowning of this year’s Miss Showgirl, Junior Miss Showgirl and Show Princess, along with Kingaroy’s Rural Ambassador, Junior Rural Ambassador and Show Prince.

Show Society spokesperson Ros Tigell said that after bumper attendances at the last two Kingaroy Shows, local entrants and businesses have been keen to show support for the 108-year-old event.

“We have had a great response from sponsors, and now from entrants,” Ros said.

“At the moment we have four entrants for Miss Showgirl and two for Rural Ambassador, and I’d like to encourage even more young people to put up their hand and have a go.

“The prizes for each section are wonderful, a real show of support from our local community.”

This year, Miss Showgirl (for single women aged 18 to 28) will win $500 cash from KM Insurance and flowers from Linard’s Floral and Bridal Centre; the runner-up will receive $200 cash from Amiche’s Hair Salon; and the third placegetter will receive a prize from Barry Lonsdale’s Pharmacy Essentials.

Pharmacy Essentials are also sponsoring the prizes for Junior Miss Showgirl (for girls aged 12 to 17 years) and Show Princess (for girls under 12).

This year’s Rural Ambassador (for men or women aged 20-30 years, married or single) will receive $500 cash from South Burnett Design and Print; the runner-up $200 cash from Kingaroy Butchery; and third placegetter, a prize from Raine & Horne Kingaroy.

The Junior Rural Ambassador (12-17 years) will receive a prize from South Burnett Test ‘N’ Tag; and the Show Prince (boys under 12) a prize from Seiler’s Transport.

A Show Queen will be selected at the Ball.

The ball will also feature a raffle with a first prize of a $100 voucher from the Pioneer Lodge Motel and Restaurant; and second prize from Kingaroy’s Gumtree Gardens.

There’ll also be a Lucky Door prize, courtesy of Andersson’s Fruit Market.

“Ken Mills Toyota, Anderson’s Produce and Flamingo Wish have also assisted us with additional sponsorship,” Ros said.

Tickets to the Show Ball are available at Coppard’s Menswear but will also be available at the Town Hall door on the night.

Entry to this year’s Ball is $20 for adults, $10 for students or $55 for a family of two adults and two students. Under 12s can attend the Ball for free, if accompanied by an adult.

The Show Ball dinner will be provided by JC Catering and served at 7:00pm. Adult dinners will be $25, children’s dinners $15. For catering purposes these will need to be booked before April 12 because there will only be limited dinner tickets at the door.

This year popular Deception Bay duo Just Friends will be supplying the entertainment, with dancing starting at 8:00pm.
