The South Burnett Regional Council will hold community meetings at Blackbutt and Ironpot next week.
The first meeting will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall on Monday, March 23, at 6:30pm to provide residents with an update on Council’s efforts to get a modern supermarket built in the town.
Council recently called for expressions of interest from developers, and at this month’s general meeting voted to draw up a short list of preferred applicants from those who’d shown interest in the project, then invite them to submit tenders.
The Blackbutt meeting will also update residents on kerbing and drainage work that will soon be undertaken in the town to remedy long-standing problems with drainage that occur whenever heavy rains fall.
The meeting will also try to get the views of residents about whether they want to erect a statue to former international tennis star Roy Emerson in the town.
Roy Emerson grew up in Blackbutt.
The second meeting will be held at Ironpot Hall on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:30pm for residents of the Ironpot and Burrandowan areas.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss road maintenance in the area.
The meeting will be followed by an informal barbecue dinner.
Both meetings will be led by Mayor Wayne Kratzmann.

The Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association currently have a petition in place to request that the section of the D’Aguilar Highway between Kevin Allery Bridge (Blackbutt) to the north side of the Nukku Bridge (Nukku North Road) be named the Roy Emerson Way. To date, over 340 people have shown support for this request. An e-petition will be available to show your support online towards the end of March at this website: https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petitions
