The South Burnett Saints will be hosting their first pre-season trial game in Kingaroy this Sunday.
The AFL team, who just missed out on winning the Grand Final in the Darling Downs 2nd Division competition last year, are hoping for even better things this time around.
And they’re keen to get into winning form early.
The Sunday match, which will be played against the Chinchilla Suns, will kick off at 11:30am.
Admission is free and spectators are very welcome to come and cheer the home team on.
“We’re all excited to start playing footy after a heavy workload from the pre-season training,” acting men’s coach Adam Branch said.
“We have recruited well in the senior men’s team, with additional height across the playing list.
“And we’re looking forward to seeing the younger players development in the senior team, too.”
This year – for the first time – the Saints will also be fielding their first all-women’s team in the Darling Downs competition.
About 18 players have already put up their hands up, and have been training for the past few weeks under the watchful eye of men’s team captain Adam Bowater.
“We could still do with a few more female players, though, so anyone who’s interested is welcome to come along to a training night and try out,” Adam said.
Training for the Men’s and Women’s teams is held at Lyle Vidler Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45pm.
[Update: An earlier version of this story said Sunday’s match would start at 2:00pm; this has now been amended by the club to 11:30am]
