Here’s the weekly Fishing Report for Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen dams for the week ending Monday, March 9:

Boondooma Dam

  • Dam Level = 73 per cent

Another week of good fishing if you are using bait.

The lure fisho things were a lot harder but there was a technique that worked. The schools would shut down after you caught one fish. So move away for an hour and come back again, over and over to the same spot, and you would continue to land fish.

Redclaw are still hit and miss.

Bjelke-Petersen Dam – Yallakool

  • Dam Level = 50 per cent

Round 1 of the Basstastic fishing competition was held on the weekend.

Anglers caught some good sized goldens around the banks and bass in the deeper water.

It seems spinner baits and ice jigs worked best on the weekend.

There were plenty of reports of just undersized bass being caught which is a great advertisement for the BP Dam Restocking Association’s efforts.

Redclaw numbers were starting to increase before the remnants of Cyclone Marcia passed but it has been hit and miss ever since.

A few lucky or crafty “Redclawers” are still getting full pots but generally it has been hard going.
