To coincide with the Gallipoli Centenary, the theme for this year’s South Burnett Regional Council Acquisitive Art competition is “The Australian Light Horsemen”.

Many people don’t realise that Light Horse regiments served at Gallipoli – without their horses – as a back-up to the infantry.

After the withdrawal, the Light Horsemen were reunited with their mounts and served in Palestine and the Sinai until 1918.

The artwork can depict any aspect of the Australian Light Horsemen and can be in any form of art medium.

Entries close on March 25 at 4:30pm and must be delivered to the Kingaroy Art Gallery by 4:30pm on March 30.

They will be judged on April 10.

The official opening of the exhibition will be on Saturday, April 11, at 10:30am.

Artists will be competing for cash prizes: 1st $1200, 2nd $800, 3rd $400, Youth (12-24 years) $250 and People’s Choice $500, donated by Council.

The winning artwork will remain the property of the South Burnett Regional Council and will be included in Council’s Art Collection.
