Maidenwell is about to go marathon crazy with the inaugural Maidenwell Marathon Weekend next month.

A series of runs will be held over the Easter long weekend (April 4-5) as a fundraiser for the Tanduringie State School.

And as an added bonus, a free rodeo will top off the fun on Sunday night.

The marathon is being organised by marathon legend Bruce “Digger” Hargreaves who has completed more than 135 marathons and 45 ultra-marathons in his running career, including the famous London, New York and Boston marathons.

Distances available for runners range from 2.2km to 56km.

Bruce told southburnett.com.au that he was promoting the event amongst the running community.

At the moment there are confirmed entries from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Port Moresby, with inquiries from New Zealand.

And the pupils at Tanduringie School haven’t been forgotten, either.

All the children have already begun to complete a full 42.195km marathon – spread over short distances during term. They will run the last leg on the Maidenwell Marathon weekend.

A meeting of the organising committee was held at the Maidenwell Hotel on Saturday evening.

Bruce spent the day inspecting and measuring the proposed course (see below).

Tanduringie State School principal Melanie Ludke said volunteers were also being sought to help out over the two days.  She can be contacted on (07) 4164-6146.
