Flashback: the annual Soccer Sevens carnival always draws a big crowd to Kingaroy, and this year’s registrations looked set to create a new record

February 24, 2015

The last-minute cancellation of this year’s Evolution Solar South Burnett Seven’s Carnival was an agonising decision for the organisers.

Cyclones are unpredictable and Football South Burnett had to err on the side of caution.

Everybody was disappointed and Kingaroy would have lost a lot of revenue, but safety must come first.

Hopefully the teams that registered this year will return in 2016.

To their credit, a few travelling teams visited Kingaroy and enjoyed the local hospitality and watering holes.

After all, the weekend is not just about football – it’s also about good times and great memories.

Busy Time For Brisbane

Maybe the postponement of their match against Melbourne Victory was a blessing in disguise as Brisbane Roar start a hectic month with the start of the Asian Club Championship pool stages.

Brisbane has been placed in a tough group alongside Chinese Champions Beijing Guoan, Urawa Diamonds (Japan) and Suwon Bluewings (South Korea).

All games will be played on a home and away basis.

Much to the disappointment of many fans, the three ACL home games will be played at Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast due to the unavailability of Suncorp Stadium because of a Foo Fighters concert.

ACL Rules demand that all home games be played at the same stadium.

In a sweetener to fans, though, adult tickets will start from $10 which includes all public transport.

Brisbane plays their first match this Wednesday at 7:30pm against Beijing.

The ACL Roar Squad is:

  • 1. Michael Theo (gk)
  • 3. Shane Stefanutto
  • 4. Adam Sarota
  • 5. Corey Brown
  • 6. George Lambadaridis
  • 8. Steven Lustica
  • 9. Andrija Kaluderovic
  • 10. Henrique
  • 13. Jade Morth
  • 14. Daniel Bowles
  • 15. James Donachie
  • 16. Devante Clut
  • 17 Matt McKay
  • 18. Luke Brattan
  • 19. Jack Hingert
  • 20. Kofi Danning
  • 21. Jamie Young (gk)
  • 22. Thomas Broich
  • 23. Dimitri Petratos
  • 26. Lachlan Jackson
  • 27. Ben Litfin
  • 28. Brandon Borrello
  • 29. Patrick Theodore
  • 33. Luke DeVere
  • 34. Shannon Brady
  • 35. Mitchell Hore
  • 36. Fraser Chalmers (gk)
  • 37. Denver Crickmore (gk)
  • 38. Nicholas D’Agostino

Jerome Polenz and J.C. Solorzano were not included in the squad because only three non-Asian based players are permitted.

Thomas Broich, Henrique and the new signing Andrija Kaluderovic were the selected players.

Upcoming Brisbane Roar Matches:

  • February 25: vs Beijing Guoan – CBus Stadium, 7:30pm
  • February 28: vs Perth Glory – Perth, 8:30pm
  • March 4: vs Urawa Reds – Saitama, Japan, 8:30pm
