Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has been given the portfolio of Agriculture, Fisheries an Forestry in the Opposition Shadow Cabinet announced today.

Mrs Frecklington told southburnett.com.au she was very thrilled to be given the role as Shadow Minister in a portfolio which was such an important one for the local region, however she also felt very humbled.

Her opposite number in the Labor Government is Bill Byrne, who was appointed by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk as Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries.

Mr Byrne, however, is also Minister for Sport and Racing.

Mrs Frecklington said the fact that Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg had kept “Agriculture, Fisheries an Forestry” as a single portfolio was a demonstration of the importance the Opposition put on agriculture.

She said her thoughts now were with the farmers being affected by Cyclone Marcia and she was looking forward to representing rural issues during future debates in Parliament.

  1. The irony of the LNP placing Deb in the position of ‘protecting’ Ag land & forestry. Was only a couple of months ago that she was still happy to destroy thousands of acres of agricultural land over her misinterpreted promise of no Stage 3 expansion for New Hope at Acland.

  2. I’m sure the 1170 people who voted for you probably agree, Grant. But I’m not so sure the other 30,808 who didn’t vote for you share the same view.

    • That leaves around 54% of the electorate that didn’t vote for the LNP, either. That’s more than half FYI, Bill.
