Ryan Kelly was named the South Burnett’s Player of the Final after taking five wickets in the SB U19’s victory over Gympie in the Wide Bay championship on Sunday.
Kelly took his “fifer” with some tight bowling, with just 15 runs taken off his nine overs.
South Burnett won the toss and elected to bat.
Young Murgon cricket star Jared Sippel, who was selected last year to play in the 15 & Under Australian Schoolboys cricket team’s tour of Sri Lanka, top-scored with 54 runs.
Tom Patton added to the total with 35.
The South Burnett boys were all out for 194.
Vasil Exharos was the stand out bowler for Gympie, taking 4/31 off six overs, and was later named his team’s Player of the Final.
In reply, Gympie fell short, all out for 143 after a spirited attack from South Burnett.
David Wiblen (41) and Max Calton (23) were the best of the Gympie batsmen.
South Burnett won by 51 runs, bringing home the U19 Wide Bay Australia Shield.

Wondai District Cricket club’s planned “night bowls” fundraiser at the Wondai Bowls Club on Friday night (Feb 20) has been postponed due to the predicted wet weather from Cyclone Marcia.

Two A Grade South Burnett cricket matches were played on Saturday.
Warriors were too strong for Nanango at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.
Warriors batted first and were all out for 133 off 43.2 overs.
Kieran Askin (30) and Taylor Herrmann (30) were the top-scorers while Hayden Wieck made 16.
Scorpions’ bowler Brendan Weil took three wickets for the loss of just three runs.
Steve Kirkland (2/24) and Dean Olzard (2/31) also did damage for Nanango.
In reply, Warriors bowled out Nanango for 79 in just 20.3 overs.
Bowling honours were shared by Taylor Herrmann (4/16), Mitchell Crossley (2/38) and Kieran Askin (2/10).
Nanango’s best batsmen were Brendan Weil (19) and Dylan Gilliland (23).

The Wondai Wolves and Kingaroy RSL Services faced off at Wondai.
Wondai batted first and made 164 off 44.2 overs.
Geoff Wallis (52), James Cameron (34) and Robert Robarts (16) were best with the bat.
Best of the Kingaroy bowlers were Alex Dempster (5/23) and David Hosking (3/36).
In reply, Kingaroy Services RSL took 44 overs to pass the target, finishing with 7/167.
David Hosking led the way, finishing 74 not out. Next best were Peter Horne (33) and Wayne Kelly (14).
Best of the Wondai bowlers were Cameron Donohue (3/29) and Clayton Graham (2/26).
Kingaroy RSL Services won by three wickets.

Two B Grade cricket matches were also played.
At Murgon, Colts took on Kumbia in a high-scoring match.
The Rattlers won the toss and elected to bat.
Tavis Hartwig made a century and finished unbeaten on 103.
Ryan Kelly (41) and Chris Medcalf (21) also added to Kumbia’s total of 3/196.
Best of the Colts’ bowlers were Andrew Roddick (2/29) and Tom Carney (1/43).
In reply, Colts just fell short .. all out for 192
Tom Langton (51), Andrew Roddick (26) and Tom Carney (21) were best for the Murgon side.
Kumbia’s best bowlers were Jayden Steinhardt (3/21), Bernard Hopkins (3/29) and Roger Hoare (2/27).

The second B Grade game was between Kingaroy RSL Services and Murgon Diggers.
Kingaroy batted first, making 7/95.
Louis Fairbairn (18), Caylan Brown (17) and Matt Patroni (16) were Kingaroy’s top-scorers.
For Diggers, Steve Alexander took 2/14 off his eight overs, Al Woodall 1/11 and Kieren Thompson 1/17.
In reply, Murgon took just 12.2 overs to run down the target, finishing 3/98.
Chris Heness did all the damage, knocking 73 runs off just 29 balls and finshing not out.
Also not out was Steve Alexander (3).
Best of the RSL bowlers was Jacob Arden 2/31 (off six overs) while Matthew Forlonge finished with figures of 0/16 off three overs, and Matt Patroni 1/37 off three overs.
