The Queensland Building and Construction Commission has urged consumers, contractors and suppliers to be cautious in their dealings with Grant Laurence Brydon who trades as Kingaroy Sheds.

QBCC Commissioner Steve Griffin said on Tuesday that Mr Brydon does not hold a QBCC licence to undertake shed/garage building over 10 square metres and was not able to carry out, or enter into contracts to carry out, shed/garage building work in Queensland.

He said Mr Brydon had been carrying out unlawful building work in Kingaroy and surrounding areas.

The QBCC has investigated Mr Brydon for unlicensed contracting, for having no written contracts and for taking excessive deposits, and has issued infringement notices for these offences, he said.

“I warn anyone dealing with Mr Brydon to exercise extreme caution and seek legal advice before making any payments, to protect their interests,” Mr Griffin said.

The Queensland home warranty insurance scheme may not be available to all consumers if engaging unlicensed contractors.

The QBCC urged home owners to conduct research before engaging contractors, and recommended engaging a licensed contractor even for small jobs.
