Two men have been charged after a 60-year-man was allegedly bashed with a stick and a baseball bat in Nanango on Australia Day.
Officer-in-Charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said the man had been drinking alcohol with friends at his home in South Street, Nanango, when a vehicle pulled up at the house.
Police will allege there was a verbal altercation before the man was struck on the head with a large stick.
The assault allegedly continued after he fell to the ground, with more blows to his head and back from the stick.
Snr Sgt Frank said the victim then spotted a second man coming towards him with a baseball bat.
This man allegedly struck the man on the arm while he was still lying on the ground. Both men then allegedly used their weapons to strike the victim more.
The man’s friends came out of the house, an altercation ensued and the two men fled the scene in a vehicle.
Snr Sgt Frank said the victim suffered bruising to his arms and legs, and cuts to the head.
He was taken to Kingaroy Hospital and then transferred to Toowoomba Hospital.
A 24-year-old Nanango man and a 33-year-old Kingaroy man appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company.
They were remanded to re-appear on February 16.

A woman was charged with a drug offence and a man taken into custody after police stopped a vehicle on the Bunya Highway near Kumbia on Wednesday afternoon.
Snr Sgt Frank said the 30-year-old man was wanted on an arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on traffic offences.
A search of the car allegedly located a drug utensil.

A 34-year-old Kingaroy man has been charged with drink-driving after police stopped him in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, at 10:00pm on Saturday.
He allegedly had a reading of 0.053 BAC.

On Thursday, police executed a drug search warrant at a house in Frangipani Drive, Kingaroy, and allegedly located a number of drug items.
Notices to appear in court were issued to a 33-year-old man for possessing drug utensils, to a 25-year-old man for possessing a dangerous drug (methamphetamine) and failing to dispose of a syringe, and a 19-year-old woman for two counts of possessing drug utensils.

A 19-year-old Yarraman man, located by Kingaroy detectives on Monday, has been taken into custody on an arrest warrant after failing to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.
The youth faces two counts of stealing, two counts of fraud, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.
Police allege he stole a vehicle in Biloela, clothing and a mobile phone.
