Ambulance workers called to a car crash on Saturday night near Booie found an empty vehicle lying on its roof with a blood trail leading away from it.

A search located one occupant, a 23-year-old Nanango man, near the scene with head injuries.

Officer-in-Charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said a wider search then began in the belief that another occupant from the car was unaccounted for, but no one was found.

It was later determined there had been a second occupant, another 23-year-old Nanango man, who had walked away from the crash. Later contact with him confirmed he was not injured.

The injured man was taken to Kingaroy Hospital and then airlifted for further treatment.

Snr Sgt Frank said the incident occurred near the intersection of Barkers Creek Road and Redvale Road about 6:00pm.

He said the older model Ford hatchback was travelling along a dirt section of Redvale Road. As the vehicle went over a crest it left the roadway, careered down an embankment and rolled on its side for a distance of about 20 metres before coming to rest on its roof.

Snr Sgt Frank said the Ford had been seized by police for a mechanical inspection.

Blood tests had been taken from the injured man, and investigations were continuing.
