All set for Australia Day … Will Johnson (Taabinga Rotary), Nancye Jeffery (Quota), Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell, Geoff Aird (Rotary) and Tony Rossi (Rotary)

January 20, 2015

Kingaroy’s traditional Australia Day Fun Day will have an added community flavour this year with local service clubs working towards taking over the future organisation of the event.

For the past few years, the annual Community Fun Day has been co-ordinated by South Burnett Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell and Cr Damien Tessmann.

They will still be available in future to assist with the event, but Will Johnson, from the Taabinga Rotary Club, has now volunteered to be the new co-ordinator.

The Fun Day already involves many local groups.

Kingaroy Lions Club prepares the hot breakfast of bacon and eggs, which will be available from 7:00am on Monday (January 26).

Quota Kingaroy and the QCWA provide the morning tea of scones, jam and damper.

Rotary and Quota club members will also be selling the tickets in the  multi-draw raffle.

This year’s Australia Day Fun Day will kick off at 7:00am with bush poetry by Brian Weier, John Tully and Dan Rutley under a shaded area in the Kingaroy Town Hall Forecourt.

Music will be provided by Matt Phillips and Steve Hood, who will play a button accordion.

At 9:00am, a flag-raising ceremony will be performed by Army Cadets and members of the Light Horse re-enactment troop.

There’ll be face-painting and a jumping castle for the children as well as whip-cracking demonstrations by Paul Simms.

Guest speaker will be Fr Nigel Sequeira, from St Mary’s Catholic Parish.

Inside the Town Hall, Vocal Mayhem will perform and the traditional pie and lamington eating competitions will be held (with prizes to be won).

The ever-popular cane toad racing is scheduled to get underway about 10:30am.
