A South Burnett XI will play Gympie at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Sunday (January 18) in the third of their Goodchild Shield matches.

South Burnett put on a strong show against Bundaberg in December but are yet to record a win in the traditional annual competition.

The South Burnett team will consist of:

A Grade and B Grade cricket returned to local ovals last weekend after a break for the festive season.

In A Grade, Murgon Crusaders defeated the Wondai Wolves at Murgon on Saturday.

Crusaders batted first and were 6/225 off 45 overs.

Jared Sippel top-scored with 55 while father Ashley added 36. Troy Dennien was 33 not out.

Clayton Graham was the best of the Wondai bowlers, taking 1/30 off nine overs.

In reply, the Wolves reached 173 off 41.4 overs.

James Cameron hit 51, while Geoff Wallis (36) and Will Mewburn (33) also added valuable runs.

Shane Polzin was the best of the Crusaders’ bowlers, with 3/17 off 4.4 overs. Jamian Currin took 2/25 off seven overs.

In the other A Grade game, Kingaroy RSL Services proved too strong for Nanango in Kingaroy, winning by five wickets.

Nanango were all out for 99 off 33 overs, with Dean Olzard leading the way with 41 runs.

The Kingaroy bowlers were on fire with Alex Dempster taking 3/11 off six overs and Darren Geiger 2/16 off six overs.

Darren’s son Adam also did well, taking took 2/20 off five overs.

In reply, Kingaroy RSL Services made the target in 20 overs, finishing 5/101.

Chris O’Rourke (19), Mark Schmidt (17) and Brady Roberts (17) were the best with the bat.

For the Scorpions, Brendon Weil took 2/31 off seven overs, Dean Olzard 1/34 off seven overs and Dexter Calvert 1/3 off one over.

In B Grade, Kumbia took on the Murgon Colts at Kumbia.

Kumbia finished with 9/201 after a strong performance by Tavis Hartwig with 72 runs.

Edwin Simpson made 26, and Chris Medcalf, 24.

Trent Riddell was the best of the Colts’ bowlers with 2/16 off three overs.

In reply, Colts were all out for 134.

Batting honours were shared by Chris Robinson (29), Tom Langton (25) and Mark Langton (22).

Joe Milsom took 3/32 off eight overs for Kumbia.

The U19 South Burnett match against Fraser Coast did not go ahead in Kingaroy on January 11 after Fraser Coast forfeited.

Gympie will now play the South Burnett at Gympie on Sunday, February 8, in the final.

Murgon and District Cricket Club will be holding a Club reunion on Saturday, March 21, at the Murgon Sportsgrounds.
