Yarraman’s 2014 A Grade Singles champion Neil Johnston traded in his famous red driving bowls for new blue ones that he showed off at the club’s Christmas Carnival by putting the kitty in the ditch and sitting on it – probably the best toucher of the day

December is always the time to wipe the blackboard clean, put up the streamers, check out the trophies, fill up the fridge and get last year’s CDs out of the cupboard.

Some clubs have already held their Christmas party and presentation night, and some shelves at home now have some extra silverware on display.

Quite a number of clubs have their 2015 championship calendar on display, too, and are warning of closing dates for nominations.

This week we have the results of the 2014 Club Championships for Kingaroy, Nanango and Yarraman in the bulletin. So let’s get to it:

Thursday was the final Trophy Day for 2014, and numbers were again down due to partly to the approaching holidays and partly to the unpredictable weather, which is understandable.

They received:$5436 for the club to conduct come-and-try days, coach accreditation and to buy equipment

High Spirits was the name of the game when Yarraman bowlers celebrated their last day of 2014 with an unofficial “Fashion Parade” led by Merv Fitch, Jenny Moore. and Di and Neil Currell

The only person missing from Yarraman’s breakup party on the weekend was Santa Claus – but members could see where he had been and sat down to enjoy Christmas drinks and frivolity after lining up just on midday for eighteen ends of triples.

Some very close games ensued!

Results:

  • Jeff Jacobson, Todd Currell and Brian Dugdell def. Eunice Smith, Allison Anderson and John Moore 26-10
  • Arthur Smith, Kay Dugdell and Neil Currell def. Margaret Willoughby, John Beattie and George Wolski 14-13

Ladies Club President Helene Johnson skipped her trio to a very close 18-17 win over Ivy Wrembreck’s team

President Brian Dugdell called it an early Christmas when he waltzed away with the biggest win of the day, 26-10

Following the Christmas munch, President Brian Dugdell congratulated all championship winners and handed out the shields and trophies.

2014 Yarraman Club Champions:

  • A Singles: Neil Johnston

Merry Christmas!

With the festive season fast approaching, I would like to thank the many club publicity officers in our region for their wonderful support this year.

There are plans to further develop our coverage of Burnett bowls in 2015.

And feedback? Yes, I would love to hear how my reports have been received in your club – along with any promises that results, photos, and advance notice pamphlets will be regularly emailed to my In Box.

In the meantime, I’ll be taking a short break over the Christmas-New Year period and will be back towards the middle of January with another year of bowls action.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all my readers the very best for the season and a safe, happy and prosperous New Year.
