Fires, floods, storms … it’s that time of the year again and Cherbourg residents are taking no chances.

The third annual “Get Ready Cherbourg Day” was held at the town’s Sports Centre on Wednesday to help remind residents how to stay safe should another natural disaster strike the town.

The day was designed to offer family fun – with rides and giveaways for the kids, a barbecue and a fire engine display – but there was also a serious side with a number of agencies offering information that might just save a life.

Cherbourg Council Community Services Manager Edwina Stewart said Get Ready Cherbourg Day was a joint effort by council and local agencies.

It began after the tragic 2011 and 2013 floods.
