Work has begun to remove the above-ground infrastructure at Cougar Energy’s failed underground coal gasification plant at Coolabunia.

Moreton Resources CEO Jason Elks told southburnett.com.au today most of the plant was being disassembled and removed.

However, the company planned to keep an office and one of the sheds on site for future use.

Ancillary plant, including machinery and tools, had been sold to a South Burnett business.

A Darling Downs contractor was removing most of the metalwork, which would be scrapped.

Moreton Resources was also donating about $100,000 worth of drill pipe and poly pipe to a local indigenous group for rural use.

The company has made a commitment to have the infrastructure removed by Christmas.
