There’s some friendly rivalry happening at TAFE Queensland South West’s Trades Training faculty following the announcement that plumbing teacher Nuccio Monte and construction teacher Peter McGrath are both finalists at the 2014 Construction Skills Queensland Excellence Awards.

The two teachers are finalists in the “Construction Trainer of the Year” title which will be announced on December 5 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“Fun rivalry aside, we really do wish each other the best of luck, and being finalists is a great acknowledgement that what we offer students is what industry needs,” Mr Monte said.

Construction teacher Peter McGrath agreed.

“I think a key reason for why each of us got up is due to the flexible training – I’m on the road delivering construction training onsite from Kingaroy to Goondiwindi, and Nuccio does the Certificate IV in Plumbing via videolink to students at Roma, Charleville, Kingaroy and Boggabilla.”
