Lehman Brunjes watches carefully as his ball lands safely between fielders

Fresh from his century with the South Burnett U19s last weekend, Lehman Brunjes again led the way with the bat on Saturday, hitting the top score for the Murgon Crusaders in their match against the Warriors at Lyle Vidler Oval.

Brunjes (68) and Ashley Sippel (63) helped Murgon set a target of 252, which proved too great for the Warriors.

Also having good knocks were Jared Sippel (42) and Jason Webber (35).

Best of the Warriors’ bowlers were Phil Temperton (3/42) and Taylor Herrmann (3/50).

In reply, Warriors made 125 with Chance Olm (24), Andrew Askin (20) and Cameron Groer (18) making starts.

The father/son combination of Sippels also did the damage for the Crusaders with the ball. Ashley finished with 3/7 and son Jared 3/18.

Ryan Sommerfeld took 2/28.

During the week, it was announced that Jared Sippel had been awarded a grant from AMP’s “Tomorrow Fund” – one of only 47 awarded from across Australia – to assist with his travel and training costs associated with representative cricket.

In the second A Grade match, played at Nanango, the home team overcame Wondai.

Wondai batted first and made 112.

Top scorers were Lucas Sander (26) and Clayton Graham (24).

Stephen Kirkland (3/27) and Dean Olzard (3/28) were the best of the Scorpions’ bowlers.

In reply, Nanango made 116 for the loss of six wickets.

Best with the bat were Ben Alexander (46) and Simon Morrow (30).

Wondai’s best bowlers were Kiall Rowberry (2/11) and Luke Burton (1/5).

David Warner and BJ Fisher were the heroes for Murgon Colts in their victory over Kumbia in a B Grade match played at Murgon on Saturday.

Warner took five wickets – including a hat-trick – for just 12 runs off eight overs and also added 12 valuable runs at the end of the game.

U14s player BJ Fisher hit a four and a six to get the winning runs for the Colts.

Kumbia batted first and made 127.

Dane Sommers top-scored (30 n.o.) while Tavis Hartwig and Ryan Kelly both made 18.

David Warner was lethal with the ball for the Colts.

In reply, Keith Walsh (29) and Barry Fisher (19) top-scored for Colts while David Warner finished 12 n.o. and BJ Fisher 10 n.o.

U14s player Corey Cross was the best of the Kumbia bowlers, finishing with 3/10 off three overs.

Barambah defeated Warriors by 15 runs in a high-scoring B Grade match played at Murgon State High School.

Barambah were 5/326 at the end of their 40 overs, setting a formidable target for Warriors.

Errol Simpson top-scored with 130 n.o. while Edwin Simpson (46) and Curtis Hill (38 n.o.) added to the score.

Dane Bloomfield was the best of the Warriors’ bowlers, taking 2/38 off eight overs.

In reply, Warriors worked hard to wear away the Barambah lead.

Paul Clegg (79), Stewart Lavaring (70) and Dane Bloomfield (52) all added good runs to the scoreboard however the Warriors simply ran out of time.

At the end of their 40 overs, they were 6/311.

Best of the Barambah bowlers was Gene Barratt who finished with 2/62 off eight overs.

Kingaroy RSL Services downed Murgon Diggers in their B Grade game at Taabinga State School.

Kingaroy RSL finished with 7/201. Top scorers were Caylan Brown (63), Karl Freeman (45 n.o.) and Brian Walters (44).

Best of the Murgon bowlers were Al Woodall (3/30), Paul Taylor (1/17) and Shaun Taylor (1/19).

In reply, Diggers made 82.

Shane Sippel top-scored with 51.

Matthew Patroni took five wickets for just 14 runs, while Peter Hourn finished with 2/28.
