Friends, relatives and supporters of South Burnett artists attended the Kingaroy Art Gallery recently for the official opening of the third annual “South Burnett On The Wall” art exhibition.

The exhibition features an astonishing range of artworks executed by 36 local artists, in media ranging from traditional painting through to photography, paper tole, hand-made rugs and more.

The idea for an annual exhibition showcasing the region’s best artists was created by Gallery curator Fiona Kemp in 2012 when an exhibition she’d arranged for the Main Gallery had to be unexpectedly postponed, leaving a hole in the gallery’s busy schedule.

From a small start, the exhibition has grown in a short span of time to become one of the Gallery’s major annual shows.

This year’s exhibition was jointly opened by Fiona and South Burnett Regional Council’s Arts portfolio chair Cr Ros Heit.

Cr Heit praised the artists who exhibited and thanked the Gallery for creating the concept and continuing to support the annual show.

She said the show was a great way to show off the talents of local artists off to visitors.

“Congratulations to everyone. This is a wonderful show,” she said.

  • South Burnett On The Wall will remain on display at the Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 4:30pm on weekdays and 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekends until the end of the month.
