It’s been a busy time at Kumbia QCWA … members celebrated their International Day last week, and Jean Carter from Maidenwell had a close encounter with a dragon (Photo: Kumbia QCWA)

Kumbia QCWA members are relieved to hear a bladder scanner has finally been purchased for the Kingaroy Hospital.

The branch instigated a plan to purchase this equipment early this year and appealed to other not-for-profit organisations within the Kingaroy community to help by selling tickets in a minor art union.

We were very grateful for the positive response we received from several groups and individuals, which resulted in $3916.40 being raised from the art union.

Kingaroy Hospital’s Auxiliary also agreed to support the project and we jointly issued an appeal to other community groups to donate to this.

Again, there was wonderful support and funds were sufficient to enable the purchase by July.

But it has taken until now for this to eventuate.

To all those wonderful community members who supported this project we say “well done” and thank you!

Kumbia QCWA celebrated Vietnamese International Day on November 12 with a craft morning, lunch and guest speaker.

The craft was weaving strips to make containers or mats. and it proved quite challenging – but we were assured by our Vietnamese guest that Vietnamese girls learn this in Grade 1.

Our lunch was prepared by International Officer Catherine Woodham and reflected Vietnamese cuisine.

Our guest Helen and her husband John told us of their experiences in Vietnam and encouraged us to visit.

We are grateful for the assistance we’ve recently received from a Jupiter’s Gambling Community Fund.

They have given us a grant which has enabled us to have our Rooms in Kumbia fully painted – externally, internally and the roof.

Our garage sale on November 8 was successful in clearing quite a lot of our collected items and the balance was donated to a local charity.

We thank our member Joyce Dickenson for the use of her grounds for this.

We made use of Val Smith’s home for our November meeting and thank her for her hospitality.

Following the meeting, we shared a lunch and watched the Melbourne Cup.

For our December meeting, members will have a quick meeting in the Rooms and then adjourn to the Kumbia Hotel for a pre-Christmas lunch, where we invite family members and friends to join us and share a Secret Santa to an approximate value of $5.

Members will have one more function before our year ends when we hold a stall at the Kumbia Christmas Market on 14 December.

We wish all readers a very enjoyable Christmas and hope we will have good health and good seasons in the New Year.
