South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann has written to Blackbutt and Benarkin residents to update them on the proposal to have a supermarket developed in Blackbutt.

Mayor Kratzmann said Council had obtained legal advice to ensure the process being undertaken conformed with the Local Government Act, and this had been confirmed.

Council had also approved the calling for formal “expressions of interest” for a supermarket development on the hall land.

“The EOI documents will now be prepared and issued,” he said.

“Regular updates will be provided to Council during the EOI process which, due to the Christmas period, will continue into the New Year.

“Council staff will fully assess the EOI received to ensure that out community needs are met.

“Following this, in accordance with the Local Government Act, Council will shortlist the preferred expressions of interest for the purpose of seeking full tender submissions.

“This approach will ensure the tender documents capture the critical aspects necessary for forming a binding contract to build and operate a supermarket.

“The relocation of the hall will be canvassed during the EOI and tender process.

“The hall will not be moved until contracts are in place to take ownership of the land and build a supermarket.

“Consultation will continue with the Blackbutt / Benarkin community with regards to this project.”
