St Mary’s Catholic College officially welcomed Senior Constable Todd Armstrong as its new Adopt-a-Cop at a ceremony on Tuesday (November 4).

Acting Inspector Lance Guteridge and the College community heard Snr Const Armstrong’s pledge to be a positive presence for all of St Mary’s students.

Acting Insp Guteridge, Snr Constable Armstrong and the College’s Principal, Mr Michael Nayler then signed a commitment certificate.

Mr Nayler said that he had been working toward getting an Adopt-a-Cop for St Mary’s for a while after seeing the benefit of the program in his previous schools.

He said he wanted Snr Const Armstrong to become a part of the St Mary’s family so that students could feel comfortable in asking him legal questions, talking about any of their concerns or finding out about careers with the Queensland Police Service.

Snr Const Armstrong would also talk to classes about important legal issues including driver safety and child safety.

Mr Nayler said Snr Const Armstrong was already making his presence felt by attending a number of College events and taking the time to walk around and meet students at lunch time.

“I want all of our students to know that they can have faith and trust in the police. Some already have great relationships thanks to the Cherbourg Police Rangers, but many others may not even get a chance to meet a policeman,” Mr Nayler said.
