As predicted in July, Nanango’s Big Screen Festival will go ahead next year despite Federal Government funding cutbacks to the National Film and Sound Archives.
The decision to axe funding to the NFSA’s touring festival sparked extensive lobbying by the South Burnett Regional Council to ensure that one of the most popular events on the local social calendar would continue.
Council was advised recently the Big Screen Festival would continue, but only in Nanango.
Sponsorship by Heritage Bank Nanango is believed to have been a key to the festival being given a green light for the next three years.
The Big Screen Festival has been held annually in the South Burnett since 2007.
Guest stars to have walked the red carpet in Nanango include Magda Szubanski, Martin Sacks and John Wood.
