The South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend – which features more than 60 different events – was officially kicked off on Friday night with a special three-course dinner at the Wondai Hotel.
The food and wine was all South Burnett produce, prepared and served by staff from Cherbourg’s Yurri Muntha cafe.
Wondai Hotel proprietor Michael Beohm explained various aspects of the dishes and why they were matched with particular local wines.
It was a very classy start to what promises to be an exciting weekend of events in the South Burnett.
This is the third year that the region-wide promotion, which links together a smorgasbord of events under the one banner, has been run.
South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show has a double purpose: to attract tourists to the area over the long weekend and to entice local residents to stay at home and enjoy local attractions rather than leaving the region to spend their holiday dollars elsewhere.
There’s everything from markets and winery tours to children’s art workshops and the Queensland Dairy Industry Museum Heritage Day at Murgon.
Whole-of-town events such as the annual Nanango Mardi Gras which has been shifted into the afternoon to allow visitors to enjoy the Nanango markets and races during the day.
Other major events include the Austackle Inland Family Fishing Classic on Bjelke-Petersen Dam, the Manar Park King Of The Park Challenge, the Maidenwell Folk Festival, The Big Sing and Symphony In The South Burnett.
There are also free buses available linking many of the events (see timetable below).
