ABC Southern Queensland gardening expert Rod Hultgren with Nanango garden Club president Avis Klinck and Noel Prior, president of the Queensland Council Of Garden Clubs

October 31, 2014

Gardeners from all over south-east Queensland converged on Nanango during the week to swap hints and listen to guest speaker Rod Hultgren share his decades of experience.

About 80 people – members of seven garden clubs – met at Copper Country Restaurant for the “South Burnett Friendship Day”.

The day was hosted by Nanango Garden Club but also included members from the Kilcoy Greenleaves, Big Scrub, Valley of the Lakes, Wondai, Kingaroy and Barambah clubs.

Noel Prior, president of the Queensland Council of Garden Clubs, and Cr Ros Heit spoke at the opening.

Guest speaker Rod Hultgren has been taking gardening calls from listeners on ABC Southern Queensland for more than 20 years.

He and his wife Maureen have also been awarded Grand Champion in the Carnival of Flowers competition in Toowomba many times.

As well as the guest speaker, there were stalls to browse, recipes to swap, morning tea and lunch to enjoy, and raffles.
