The South Burnett Regional Council’s water treatment plant at Gordonbrook Dam

Submissions will close at 4:30pm on Friday on the South Burnett Regional Council’s proposed new customer service standards for water and wastewater.

South Burnett Regional Council owns and maintains

  • Nine water treatment plants
  • 551km of water mains
  • 31 water pump stations
  • 31 water storage reservoirs
  • Nine wastewater treatment plants
  • 245km of wastewater mains
  • 21 wastewater pump stations

It also owns and operates both bulk water supplies and distribution networks including Gordonbrook Dam, Boorbir Dam, and the Ellwoods Road and Nukku pipeline bulk supply main connections to the Tarong-Boondooma pipeline.

Council supplies “potable” (ie. drinkable) water to residents in Nanango, Kingaroy, Wooroolin, Wondai, Murgon and Proston as well as non-potable water to  Kumbia, Proston Rural users and parts of Nanango and Wooroolin.

The draft standards cover the services offered for drinking water and wastewater collection and treatment, connections, metering, billing, maintenance work, complaints and dispute resolution.

It suggests an acceptable service standard of 10 or fewer water quality complaints per 1000 properties per year for potable water; and 20 or fewer complaints per 1000 properties for non-potable water.

The complaints measured can be “written or verbal”, including those delivered in person, by mail, fax, phone, email or text message.
