The final stages of reconstruction works on several major flood-damaged roads across the South Burnett region has begun.

“Bitumen sealing and linemarking works began last week on several sections of roads within the South Burnett region, as part of road works to repair damage sustained during 2013 floods,” Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today.

Road works are being undertaken at:

  • Burnett Highway, between Gayndah and Goomeri
  • Burnett Highway, between Goomeri and Nanango
  • Bunya Highway, between Kingaroy and Goomeri
  • Wide Bay Highway
  • Murgon-Gayndah Road
  • Byee Road

“Road works will take place between 6:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday, with road sealing at each site to be carried out over two days, followed by final linemarking a week later. If the works go according to schedule, they should be completed by the end of October,” Mr Truss said.

To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers, traffic signals, traffic controllers, single lane closures and speed restrictions will be used as required.

“While efforts will be made to minimize the impact of the road works, there may be delays of up to 15 minutes while the work is completed, and motorists may need to consider adding some extra time to their journey.

“I thank motorists for their patience and co-operation during the construction period.”

The roadworks are being funded under the Natural Disaster Recovery and Relief Arrangements with up to 75 per cent of the project cost covered by the Federal Government and the remaining cost met by the State Government.
