The Federal Government is inviting communities to get involved in the 20 Million Trees Program, with the first competitive grants round now open for applications.

“I encourage communities, groups and individuals to put forward their proposals for funding under the 20 Million Trees Program, which offers grants between $20,000 and $100,000 to help set up projects,” Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said.

“The 20 Million Trees Program will invest $50 million over the next four years to re-establish Australia’s green corridors and urban forests, as part of the Federal Government’s National Landcare Program.

“Funding can be used by schools, local councils, conservation groups and landholders to re-establish native vegetation, and create greener spaces that benefit local communities while providing improved habitat for local threatened species.

“Projects can be undertaken on public and private land, if there is evidence that the projects will create improvements for communities and the local environment.

“The 20 Million Trees Program is part of $2 billion in funding for natural resource management which will be made available by the Federal Government over the next four years.”

Applications will close on October 30.
