Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd dropped into Wondai RSL Club on Monday morning to hand over two special deliveries to local residents.
Firstly, Mr O’Dowd presented a certificate recognising overseas operational service to Wondai resident Ian Bramley.
Ian, who was with the 6th Battalion RAR, served with ANZUK (Australia-New Zealand-UK) forces in Singapore from 1971-73 and at Butterworth in Malaysia from 1975-76 and 1979-80.
Mr O’Dowd then handed over a cheque for $4400 to Cr Ros Heit and Wondai RSL Sub-Branch president Neil Burrows.
The money will be put towards the publication of a special commemorative book for the Anzac centenary which will feature the stories of South Burnett World War I diggers.
Each story will be written by a Year 9 student.
In the Flynn electorate, students from Proston P-10 and Wondai P-10 will be contributing stories towards the project.
“This project is one that I consider to be worthy of support and I am happy to make this money available through the Committee which is organising the 2015 Anzac Troop Train re-enactment from Winton to Brisbane the week before Anzac Day 2015,” Mr O’Dowd said.
