The Cherbourg Hornets had two teams at the recent QAIHC Arthur Beetson Rugby League Carnival played at Redcliffe … and both did very well against strong opposition from all over Queensland.

The Cherbourg Hornets’ U15s went through the carnival undefeated.

The boys defeated the NT Titans 30-12, Murri United 18-14, Moreton Bay Murris 16-10 and Toowoomba Warriors 36-12.

They finished second on the ladder behind Torres Strait team Tagai Zugubal – who also had four wins – based on for/against.

Cherbourg’s women’s team, the Hornettes, also played well, making it through to the semi-finals.

On their way, the women defeated Brisbane Natives 20-8 and Moreton Bay Murris 26-12, but were defeated 4-0 by the CQ Dreamers.

In the sudden death semi-final, they were beaten by the eventual winners of the carnival, the Inala Bears, 36-10.

The Bears faced the Iris Saltner Memorial team in the final, coming out triumphant 28-6.
