Kingaroy-based not-for-profit group South Burnett Peace Of Mind has organised a special social dinner dance on Friday night for a group of people who often miss out on the better things in life.

The White Dove Ball, at Kingaroy Town Hall, is for the homeless and other South Burnett residents who are doing it tough at the moment, especially people undergoing counselling or treatment for mental illness.

The South Burnett Peace Of Mind Association was founded by local resident Rhonda Trivett in 2012.

It operates a weekly drop-in centre at St John’s Lutheran Hall as well as organising opportunities for group members to enjoy social activities such as cooking lessons, art and craft days, music and singing as well as gain important lifeskills in literacy and numeracy.

The White Dove Ball, which has been timed to coincide with Mental Health Week, will get under way at 6:45pm.

Members of the community have donated secondhand clothes and make-up to help attendees “put on the ritz” for the night.

“The aim is to help make these clients feel accepted and good about themselves, as well as have an enjoyable night and help them become more confident socially in the community,” Rhonda said.

Music will be provided by Whole Hearted.

Entry is free for the target market (although a $10 deposit will be required which will be refunded on the night at the door).

For everyone else, the cost is $50 or $35 for pensioners/seniors and concession card holders.

Tickets are available at Musicians Oasis or Kingaroy Office Central.
