The Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA) looked back on a year of significant progress in and around Nanango when it held its Annual General Meeting on September 25.
Delivering her President’s Report, NaTDA president Gloria Kirkness noted that in the last year the town had seen its first set of traffic lights installed; the re-opening of the former Drayton Street bridge (now the Ben Walters bridge); a significant upgrade of the Scott parking area; the commencement of the CBD streetscaping project; the widening and upgrading of the highway in the town centre; landscaping at the Nanango cemetery; and many roadworks and general improvements.
Over the year NaTDA members had been heavily involved in fundraising activities for the Nanango Mardi Gras; had produced a new tourist map for the town; were involved in a book launch at Ringsfield House; and continued to carry out quarterly “Adopt A Spot” road cleanups on a section of the D’Aguilar Highway.
The group was also part of the RSL sub-committee which is planning the town’s 2015 Anzac Day commemorations, and had joined with several other groups to continue to press the South Burnett Regional Council for the re-opening of McCauley Weir.
Mrs Kirkness said the last 12 months had been “remarkable year” for the town.
NaTDA’s office bearers for 2014-15 are Gloria Kirkness (President); Danielle Turmaine (Vice President); Mary Green (Secretary); Virgil Smith (Assistant Secretary) and Marilyn and Denis Newton (joint Treasurers).
- NaTDA meets on the third Thursday of each month in the Long Hai Room of Nanango RSL at 5:30pm. NaTDA aims to assist, foster, instigate or manage any project that could contribute to the advancement of the communities in and around Nanango, and it represents the interests of Nanango’s community, business and tourism operators. President’s Report 2013/2014Good evening and welcome to the Annual General Meeting of Nanango Tourism and Development Association Inc. NaTDA is an umbrella organisation representing a broad range of locals with a common desire to develop the amenities and promote the tourism opportunities of our town. NaTDA members have been delighted to be involved in many activities in our town. We are pleased to see our streetscape being completed, as well as our new Ben Walters bridge; traffic lights; revamping of the Scott parking area; the widening of the highway and other roads around Nanango; landscaping at the Nanango cemetery; and the newly planted trees which provide a colourful entrance to our town. NaTDA members are participating in the Fun Fest Committee assisting with the organisation and running of the Heritage Nanango Mardi Gras 2014. We have participated and enjoyed the fund raising events held for the Mardi Gras, including the Baby and Bridal Show; the Cent Auction; the Casino Night; and the selection of the Mardi Gras Princess. We have also continued with our “Adopt a Spot” clean-up, and await the arrival of our signage. This year we have become insured with public liability insurance arranged through Elders. NaTDA members have joined with the RSL Sub-Committee to form the Nanango Remembrance Committee to assist with arrangements for the forth coming ANZAC commemorations. Trips to Jimbour for the Music Festival and to Kumbia for the Melbourne Cup Race Day have been organised. We also supported a book launch at Ringsfield. A tourist brochure – “Meet the Locals” – has been updated and reprinted to advertise our local businesses. NaTDA continues to be a member and attend the meetings of The South Burnett Tourist Association. We also cooked the Mayor’s Breakfast when this function was last held in Nanango. And our web page continues to evolve. We have, along with various other clubs, continued to lobby the Council to reopen McCauley Weir. We have had some resignations during the year. Our Treasurer, Alison, moved to greener pastures; Sue closed her clothing business ‘Gecko’; Rev has resigned due to business pressures; and Phil has also left since the sale of Foodworks. We have, however, welcomed many new members and our membership currently stands at 30. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members past and present for their support. I would also like to make a special mention of our hard working Secretary/Treasurer, Mary. I believe our efforts continue to make Nanango the best and most liveable town in the South Burnett. |
