South Burnett residents gathered at the Kingaroy Art Gallery on Friday night to mark the start of Mental Health Week and celebrate the hidden talent we have in the local community.

The annual Mental Health Week Art Show, sponsored by Kingaroy Lions Club, attracted entries on the theme “Create Your Journey”.

The winners of the competition were announced at the official launch:

  • 1st: Daphne Brown, for “My Lonely Journey” ($100 prize)
  • 2nd: Shannus O’Sullivan, for “Sunday Morning” ($50 prize)
  • Encouragement Award: Malele Woods, for “Create Your Journey” ($50 prize)

The competition was co-ordinated by the South Burnett Community Mental Health Service and judged by artist Megg Cullen.

The artworks will remain on display at the Kingaroy Art Gallery until October 23.

Last year’s winner  Lee Brewer, from Wattle Camp, with his 2014 entry, “The Tattooed Man” 

Carmel Cross, from Kingaroy, had three paintings in the competition, including this one entitled “Hummingbird” 

Chris Lorne, from Wooroolin, entered two pencil drawings “Let Your Mind Fly Free I” and “Let Your Mind Fly Free II”
