The Burnett District Ladies Triples competition was played at the Wondai Bowls Club on two days last week. Ten teams from throughout the region in the prestigious two bowl triples competition.

In ideal conditions, the first day’s play consisted of three games over 18 ends with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals.

District Match Chairperson Linda Cecil said that the competition was of the highest standard.

At the end of the first days play, the teams from Kingaroy, Binjour, Yarraman and Wondai advanced.

On day two, Kingaroy – skipped by Beryl Woods – overcame a determined Binjour team skipped by Pat Darlington 19 to 12 .

Mrs Cecil said that it was a most riveting game to watch with the Kingaroy Ladies running out deserved winners.

In the other semi- final, the Helene Johnson skipped Yarraman team had a close tussle with the Wondai team skipped by Hazel Keding before outlasting them to win 18 to 16.

The final was played over 25 ends with Charmaine MacLeod, Val Jeppesen and Beryl Woods representing Kingaroy and Daphne Stewart, Doreen Fitch and Helene Johnson representing Yarraman.

The weather was again ideal although an inconsistent breeze did pose a few problems.

The game was played at a fierce pace with very little separating the two teams.

The Kingaroy ladies got into a winning position and held on to win 21 to 14.

On Sunday in Kingaroy, the ever popular Jackpot Pairs was contested with 14 teams taking part, each team playing two games of 18 ends.

The overall winners were determined by the number of games won plus the margin of the combined
scores.

The first game produced some extremely close results, so the pressure was on in the second game.

At the close of play three teams had two wins. It went down to margins to decide the overall result

  • Winners: Alan Irwin and Ray Maclaren – 2 Wins plus 24 margin
  • Runners Up: Charmaine and Malcolm MacLeod – 2 Wins plus 15 margin

The Jackpot number was 26, but there were Winners.

Always something happening on the greens at Kingaroy. As usual, plenty of bowls played this week. .

On Tuesday – fondly known as Cheap Tuesday due to green fees for the day being half the normal fee – the results were:

  • Maree Millard and Bob Robinson def. Peter Taylor and Kev Raffin 36-11
  • Briggitte Kung and Dave Barwick def. Darcy Munro and Geoff Clutterbuck 17-15
  • Alan Irwin and Ken McNab def. Ray Crawford and Bruce Johnston 23-9

And in Wednesday’s Rinks:

  • Evelyn Taylor, Ross Olsson, Gladys Slatter and Val Crawford def. Maree Millard, Col McBride, Norma Rook and Beryl Woods 23-18
  • Des Richards, June Olsson, Bob Bougoure and Val Jeppesen def. Bess Thorp, Marj Moore, Merv Wolski and Charmaine MacLeod 35-9

The popular Thursday competition was played with randomly picked teams this week, with the winners determined by six points for a win and one point for each end won.

The games were extremely close and there were some nail biters amongst them.

In fact, the five games finished with four teams finishing on 19 points, so the winning margins were used to overcome the four-way tie.

  • Winners: Lindy Clutterbuck, Merv Anderson and Errol Dionysius – 19 points, margin 13
  • Runners Up: Dave Woods, John Muller and Danny Holligan – 19 points, margin 7
