Wendy Chandler (front row, second from left), from “Parent To Parent” led the first NDIS Information Workshop in Kingaroy recently

October 3, 2014

Parents and carers of adults with a disability met in Kingaroy recently to learn more about the new National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Wendy Chandler, from the Parent To Parent Association at Yandina, led the workshop at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre, which was organised through CROSB.

It was the first of three workshops which have been scheduled to explore the new NDIS.

The workshops are designed to provide information to older parents / carers to help them prepare for the introduction of the NDIS which will roll out in Queensland in June 2016.

The three workshops aim to enable parents/carers to identify the life goals of the person with a disability and the support they will need to achieve this.

This knowledge will assist the parent/carer when the time comes to negotiate with the National Disability Insurance agency.

The titles of the three workshops are:

  • Creating the vision
  • Recording the vision
  • Sharing the vision

The second workshop, to be led by Matt Armstrong, will be held on November 17. The  final one is scheduled for February 2.

These will both be held from 9:00am to 2:30pm at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre, 6 Cornish Street, Kingaroy.
